I'm Back! (And why the heck was I MIA?)
I took a year off from writing. I'll be honest, I've been in a slump. Not because my muse was silent... quite the contrary. Not because the ache in my soul that is only quelled when I put pen to paper was not ever-present... it was.
I took a year off because so much life has happened.
I started writing Sly Man Gray in December 2018. In January 2019, I pulled my preorder from all platforms. That gave me more time to complete the book, and I took that time to do what any good author or writer should do, brush up on my craft. That meant attending workshops and reading books because any writer who doesn't read, in my humble opinion, is on some level a fraud.
And boy, did I read. I read over 150 books in 2019. Some contemporary, some not. Some romance, some not. I read so many great and wonderful books, and I shared some of those with you as I have maintained my monthly Romance Book Club.
I left my long-time day-job in September 2019 to work for a new nonprofit organization. In case some of you didn't know, I'm a social worker in my other life. This is why you will often see references to foster children in my books. When I went to this new agency at the end of September, I went from having a multitude of spare time to working from sunup to sundown nearly every day of the week for a while.
But now, things have slowed down in that arena, and I have a lot of my free time back. I've been able to recommit myself and my time to my writing pursuits. I've committed the year 2020 as a voting board member in my RWA online chapter (Contemporary Romance Writers - shoutout to these amazing women!). I continue to run my online book club and a local one (for women's fiction) as well as the fun times at RomanceBooks.Blog - check that out if you haven't yet!
And most of all, I've recommitted to finishing Sly Man Gray - my goal is to have it published by June (or sooner!) - as well as working on some of the other projects I have in the works.
Get ready for an emotional ride with Hunter and Annie in Sly Man Gray! I'm turning up the heart and the heat on this one.
I appreciate those of you who have stuck by patiently waiting for more books. I promise to make it worth the wait. Consider this my public affirmation: Nicole R. Locker is back.
Now... who's watching Outlander? I'm on Season 2 and it's so damn good! Why didn't anyone tell me about this before?
