10 Holiday Romance Movie Favorites

I don't know about you guys, but Christmas is my favorite season of the year. There's a lot I love about this time... the music, the lights, the holiday romance books, and especially the Christmas movies.

I've accrued a list of favorites over the years, and I thought I'd share some of those with you guys to see if these are some you enjoy, and maybe hear what some of your favorite ones are, too.

So let's just get right into it, shall we?

1. The Twelve Dates of Christmas

This is one I can watch over and over like a kid watching a Disney movie. It's got that "Groundhogs Day" trope where our main character, Kate, keeps reliving the same day, Christmas Eve, over and over, until she finally gets it right. It's a major feel-good movie, and Mark Paul Gosselar isn't too bad to look at either... am I right, ladies?

2. Last Holiday

I'm not going to lie, this is one I enjoy watching all year long. Queen Latifah is one of my favorite actresses with her undeniable humor she brings to every role. But transplant her over to one of the world's grandest hotels in the Czech Republic at Christmas time, rubbing elbows with people she previously thought above her but a major reason to no longer care to hold back, and you have comedic and heart-warming gold. Throw in some major chefs and those sexy lips of LL Cool J, and what's not to love?

3. The Holiday

This is fun and comedic, but also has some deep and endearing themes you just can't help but buy into in this all-star casted film. And let's be real here... I already loved Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and didn't mind Cameron Diaz. But if this movie doesn't give you a whole new respect for Jack Black, I don't know what you're doing. This jet-setting house-swap movie is so endearing and so relatable on so many levels. I mean, who hasn't been poor Iris, in love with some schmuck who doesn't deserve it, and needs to just allow herself a chance to get over the jerk once and for all? And there's a monologue she gives toward the end of the movie that I love so so much. Can you guess which part?

4. The Mistletones

Christmas music abounds in this fun and fairly recent holiday romance movie, and it's a romance-lover's delight with a boss-employee romance amidst a mean-girl competition. But don't let the silliness fool you, there's a deeper theme of loss of a loved one that carries this one. And if you're like me, you'll be looking up the movie soundtrack before the credits start rolling.

5. The Christmas Calendar

I just saw this movie for the first time this year, and it quickly went to my top favorites. When you watch it, you'll see why. A small-town bakery that Emily inherits after her Nonna dies is only weeks away from foreclosure due to bank loans she realizes Nonna took out to put her through law school. And oh yeah, a new French guy in town who's a little too suave and sweet to keep hating, much as you think you should. A holiday Advent Calendar shows up with an unknown sender in the shape of a toy house, and the town gets involved trying to guess who Emily's secret admirer might be. Will you be able to predict the end? I know I was tearfully surprised!

6. Second Chance Christmas

This was another new one that snuck up on my this year, but what I loved about this movie was not just how a married couple on the verge of divorce got a second chance to fall in love, but also that it was more realistic in that the heroine realizes something isn't quite fitting all the pieces and she makes some decisions that have you biting your nails to see if everything is going to blow up anyway. It was a sort of role-reversal scrooge story with the woman being more of the scrooge, and also, for you Amnesia trope lovers, that of course is the big theme of this movie.

7. Dear Santa

I feel like this one is almost an "oldie but a goodie" since it's been around for a few years, and you'll probably be able to tell with the clothing styles and what-not, but I can't help but love this single dad romance. A little girl whose mother died some time ago wants one thing from Santa this year, a new mother, and she's not going to leave it up to her so-nice-he's-clueless dad. A spoiled rich girl who's about to be cut off happens to find the letter to Santa and finds a way to insert herself, only to find herself falling in love. But she's got some stiff competition by way of an old college girlfriend who swoops in wanting to claim what should have been hers.

8. Twelve Trees of Christmas

Book lovers rejoice, it's an enemies-to-lovers trope set at Christmas time, and the heroine is trying to save her local library from the big bad contractor who wants to tear it down in the name of progress to create his place in the family legacy. Very christmassy and fun. And there always seems to be an elevator scene that sparks the sexual tension, doesn't there?

9. Christmas Kiss

Speaking of kisses in elevators, this is almost a Cinderella story that begins with a disguised damsel and a kiss with a stranger in an elevator. Enter the wicked boss intent on making her do all the work while taking all the credit and a dream to do something different. Then throw in a little Christmas magic, and you find yourself a happily-ever-after. Too cute to miss!

10. Christmas Cupid

This is a fun movie that involves the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, but in the form of a recently deceased pop-star. Sometimes people just need a little push to get out of their own way to seize life and allow yourself to go for what you really want. Another fun one I love to rewatch every year!

There are surely more I love to watch, but as top 10 lists go, I'd say this is a good one, but I'd love to hear which ones you think I missed! Let me know in the comments!

Happy holidays!
